Cost of US aggression
The Iranian foreign minister has described as ‘just the tip of the iceberg’ a Pentagon report about the damage caused by Iran’s retaliatory strikes to US facilities and equipment in the region. In a social media post, Abbas Araghchi said Iran will ‘in due course’ reveal the real extent of the damage inflicted on US military assets, and it won't be pretty for those who sold lies on Iran. The top Iranian diplomat also dismissed as fiction repeated claims by US officials, including President Donald Trump, that Iran’s defensive capabilities have been destroyed during the war, leaving the country defenseless. His remarks came after the Pentagon's inspector general said in a report to Congress that Iranian strikes have damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and other structures at US bases across the region. The report estimated that the US incurred around 33.4 billion dollars in war-related costs from February 28 through June 29.

The US war of aggression against Iran has cost 38 billion dollars so far and that figure is projected to rise by three billion dollars a month. This, according to a new report released by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. According to the report, which totaled expenses through August the first, the war with Iran is expected to increase inflation in the US by half percent in the first three months of 2027. The budget office said the majority of the costs stem from the rapid drawdown of munitions, estimating that it could take five years to replenish US weapons stockpiles. Earlier reports had indicated that the US has used "virtually all" of its long-range precision missiles during the war. The mounting costs of war have also driven up energy prices in the US, adding pressure on an already stretched federal budget. The report did not include costs of recent strikes on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on US military installations in the region. It also did not factor in the borrowing expenses associated with financing the war, which could add tens of billions of dollars to the total cost.
