Genocide in Gaza

At least 14 Palestinians are killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes that hit several locations in central Gaza. Eleven lost their lives after Israeli warplanes dropped bombs on residential buildings in Bureij refugee camp. Three more Palestinians were killed as their car was struck in Nusseirat refugee camp. Near Nusseirat, Israeli fighter jets targeted a house, wounding a number of Palestinians. The total death toll in Gaza since early October is now over 36,200. Meanwhile, Palestinian resistance forces are fighting back against the Israeli military. The regime’s forces have withdrawn from several areas in northern Gaza after weeks of ground assault. Meanwhile, Israel says two of its soldiers have been killed in northern Gaza. That brings to 294 the total number of Israeli soldiers killed in ground battles in the strip.

US-UK airstrikes on Yemen

The US and the UK have carried out fresh attacks on Yemen, killing at least 16 people. The victims lost their lives in strikes on the western governorate of Hudaydah. One of the attacks hit a radio station. At least 30 people were wounded as well. The US and the UK also launched airstrikes on the capital Sana’a and hit telecoms infrastructure in the southern city of Taez. Still, no report on possible casualties of those attacks. Washington and London launched their joint airstrikes on Yemen in mid-January. They claim that they aim to protect international shipping in the wake of Yemeni attacks in the high seas. Yemen rejects their claim. It says its attacks only target Israel-linked ships and are aimed at supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Iran presidential vote

In Iran, the registration of candidates for the upcoming presidential election enters the second day. Former parliament speaker Ali Larijani registered for the election just a couple of hours ago. Other high-profile figures who have registered so far include former chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, and former legislator Mostafa Kavakebian, a reformist. The whole registration process lasts five days. After that, Iran’s Guardian Council, which is in charge of overseeing elections, will vet the hopefuls. The vetting process lasts seven days. Iranians will go to the polls on June 28 to choose a successor to the late president Ebrahim Raeisi. He and his entourage, including foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, lost their lives in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran on May 19.
