Slamming Ukraine adventurism

Iran’s Foreign Minister says the European Union has no moral standing to lecture others on human rights because of its support for the US-Israeli aggression against Iran. Abbas Araghchi made the remarks during a phone call with EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas. Iran's top diplomat slammed the bloc’s double standards and its all-out support for the Israeli genocide in Palestine. He also slammed the European Union’s interventionist positions on Iran, and its irresponsible approach to West Asia's developments. Elsewhere in his remarks, Araghchi described Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea as a very dangerous move, warning about unpredictable consequences of such adventurist measures on regional and international peace and security. Separately, Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in Tehran in strong protest at the attack. A Foreign Ministry official told the Ukrainian envoy that Tehran will categorically defend its national security and interests and will not leave any attack on the life and property of its citizens unanswered.

Saudi blockade on Yemen

The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Quds Force has called for the lifting of Saudi Arabia’s blockade on Yemen. Brigadier General Esmaili Qaani said lifting the 11-year-old blockade on Yemen is a legitimate and humanitarian demand for the oppressed people of that country. He added that the Saudi government should learn from the failed experience of the United States' irrational policies, and put an end to the blockade of a Muslim country with a population of more than thirty-eight million. Qaani stressed that the world’s Muslims expect Riyadh to use its power to support the people of Palestine in the face of the Zionist regime’s crimes, instead of waging war on an oppressed Muslim nation. His comments came after Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson called for the full implementation of the agreed roadmap for Yemen, warning that continued tensions and humanitarian crisis threaten regional peace and stability. Esmaeil Baqaei said Yemen’s conflict has no military solution, adding that only dialog and full implementation of the peace roadmap can end the suffering of the Yemeni people. The remarks came after Saudi Arabia conducted several airstrikes on Yemen, prompting a response from Sana'a.

Brazil elections

Brazil has denied visas to two American officials who planned to travel to the country to cast doubt on the integrity of its electoral system. Two Brazilian officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said American officials were denied visas due to the US plan to shape Brazil’s October presidential election. They added that the visa rejection was based on "evidence pointing to a renewed attempt to politically exploit the situation and undermine the electoral system." The US submitted the visa request on July 20, with the two officials planning to discuss freedom of expression during the election period with Brazilian authorities. The request was filed the same day Brazilian right-wing candidate, Flavio Bolsonaro, held a private meeting with foreign diplomats, claiming that the country's electronic voting system is insecure. Bolsonaro's father and former president, Jair Bolsonaro, was barred by Brazil's electoral authorities in 2023 from running for public office after making similar claims. He was later convicted of plotting a coup following his defeat in the presidential vote and is currently serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest.
