Israeli genocide in Gaza

South Africa's foreign ministry issues a statement condemning Israel’s continued blockade of Gaza and Palestinian displacement. It called Israel’s aid block a violation of international law, warning that restricting aid amid immense suffering of Palestinians breaches the Fourth Geneva Convention. The statement said preventing food from entering Gaza is a continuation of Israel's use of starvation as a weapon of war as part of the ongoing campaign of what the International Court of Justice ruled to be plausible genocide against the Palestinian people. In December 2023, South Africa filed a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Several countries have joined the proceedings, including Spain, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Turkey, Chile and Libya.

Israel West Bank offensive

Tensions are escalating across the occupied West Bank as Israel has intensified its raids on the Nour Shams refugee camp in Tulkarm. According to the local sources Israeli forces have blocked residents, medical teams, and journalists from entering the camp, using live fire to disperse them. They also raided the Fatah political party office in Tulkarm, blowing up the main gate and vandalizing materials. At least thirteen Palestinians have been killed, and over 24,000 displaced since the beginning of Israeli assaults on Tulkarm. The Tulkarm Refugee Camp Information Committee has urged humanitarian organizations and the international community to address the urgent needs of those under siege.

Rebuffing Trump pledge

Greenland's prime minister hits back at the US president's pledge to take the territory, saying islanders do not see their future with Washington. Múte Bourup Egede said the mineral-rich island is not for sale and cannot just be taken, and that its citizens are neither Americans nor Danes. He added that the future of the Arctic territory will be decided by its people. In his address to the US Congress, Donald Trump said Washington needs Greenland for national and international security. The statements come a week before Greenlanders head to the polls for parliamentary elections, with the issue of independence topping the agenda.
