Gaza ceasefire deal
The first phase of the Gaza ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is drawing to a close on Saturday, with no breakthrough in sight for the second phase of the truce deal. Hamas says no negotiations are underway for the second phase, accusing the regime of evading its commitments. The group said it is ready to complete the remaining stages of the truce, leading to a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire. It also categorically rejected the attempt to impose the presence of any foreign forces on Gaza. The Israeli cabinet is set to meet on Saturday to discuss the war as the ceasefire talks in Cairo ended this week without any breakthroughs. The first phase of the agreement, which lasted 42 days, began on January 19 and saw the release of 33 Israeli captives in exchange for about 2,000 Palestinian detainees.
Hamas warning to Netanyahu
The military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has released a new video, showing several other Israeli captives in Gaza. The al-Qassam video which was taped ahead of one of prisoner swaps with Israel last month, shows one of the captives saying he is happy his brother is being released. The captive addresses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying this is not logical in any way to separate families. He calls on Netanyahu to sign the deal and get everyone out and not destroy their lives. The captive also calls on his brother to tell everyone in Israel to continue the demonstrations and push for the cabinet to sign the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal and return them home. He also says there has been enough war and enough death. The al-Qassam video warns at the end of the video that time is running out. Hamas has released more than 30 Israeli captives since the start of the Gaza ceasefire deal.
‘Failed’ US visit
Russia says that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's trip to the United States was a “complete failure” after his meeting with President Trump erupted into a shouting match at the White House. Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described Zelensky’s behavior at the White House as "outrageously boorish". She accused the Ukrainian president of being obsessed with prolonging the conflict. She said Russia's main goals in the war remain the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. Moscow has been gaining ground on the battlefield for over a year, pressing their advantage against Ukraine's overstretched and outgunned army.
