Over half of Britons say Israel committing war crimes in Gaza: Poll

A recent opinion poll has revealed that more than half of Britons across the political spectrum believe that the actions of the Israeli military during the offensives against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip constitute war crimes.

According to the survey, commissioned by Action for Humanity and conducted by the YouGov pollster between October 16 and 17, the figure comes up to a staggering three in five among supporters of the Labour Party, which currently holds power in the United Kingdom.

The poll showed that 76% of Labour voters continue to back an end to British arms transfers to the Tel Aviv regime.

Furthermore, the total number of Britons that would oppose a ban is lower than 1 in 5, compared to 3 in 5 that would support one.

“The majority of people rightly feel the government is not doing enough to stop war crimes from happening. The overwhelming majority of the public demands that the UK government immediately cease all arms transfers to Israel, not just 10%, and take all actions to bring about a sustainable ceasefire,” Charles Lawley, the director of communications and advocacy at Action for Humanity, said.

“We believe that, unless the UK government stops ignoring the public, they will at best be impotent in the atrocities being committed in Gaza and Lebanon [and] at worst be complicit in them,” he added.

This comes as at least 55 people have been killed and 192 wounded in Israeli attacks across Gaza over the last 24 hours, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said six people, including four children, were wounded in an Israeli attack on a polio vaccination center in the Sheikh Radwan area of Gaza City.

Executive Director of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, has warned that the entire population in the northern sector of the Gaza Strip is at the “imminent risk of dying” amid Israeli atrocities.

She stated that Israeli attacks that killed more than 50 children in Jabalia, along with the assault on the polio vaccination clinic and the agency’s staffer “combine to write yet another dark chapter in one of the darkest periods of this terrible war.”

“Attacks on civilians, including humanitarian workers, and what remains of Gaza’s civilian facilities and infrastructure must stop. The entire Palestinian population in North Gaza, especially children, is at imminent risk of dying from disease, famine, and the ongoing bombardments,” Russell said.

She demanded that Israel conduct an investigation into the attack on her staffer. Also, she urged the UN’s member staff to use their influence to ensure respect for international law in Gaza.

“It is beyond time to end this war,” the senior UN official pointed out.

The Israeli regime launched its genocidal war on the defenseless people of the Gaza Strip in October 2023 following a retaliatory operation by the Hamas resistance movement.

Last month, Israeli forces intensified their attacks launching a sweeping air and land assault on northern Gaza, killing and wounding more Palestinians, many of them innocent children.

The overall death toll caused by the relentless Israeli attacks has reached 43,314 so far, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

It said that since October 7, 2023, more than 102,000 Palestinians have been injured in the Israeli onslaught.
