Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh has outlined priorities for his term in office, among them creating capabilities to deal with emerging threats in today's world.

He made the remarks on Monday at a ceremony, during which he was inaugurated as Iran’s new defense chief.

Nasirzadeh underlined the need for strengthening the components of power, stressing that today the enemy’s hegemony has collapsed in the face of the culture of resistance.

He said that acquiring the ability to respond to emerging, complex threats based on new technologies will be one of the priorities of the Defense Ministry.

“By obtaining cutting-edge technologies as well as relying on new models of cooperation and less-used opportunities, the Armed Forces will be equipped with the indigenous, advanced and smart technologies and equipment that they need,” he added.

Nasirzadeh also noted that the ministry under his watch will develop active deterrence to ward off any type of threats and use defense diplomacy to maintain national power and dignity.

Iran’s defense minister further said his plans include the constant monitoring of defense-technological developments, improving the support capabilities of operational forces through artificial intelligence, and promoting productivity in the organizations affiliated to the Defense Ministry.

Last week, Nasirzadeh garnered the most number of confidence votes for a proposed minister in the history of the Islamic Revolution, wining 281 out of 288 ballots cast.
