Gaza schools under Israeli strikes
At least a dozen Gazans, including women and children have been killed in an Israeli airstrike which targeted a school sheltering displaced people. A Palestinian journalist, working on a story about displaced Palestinians, was also killed in the attack. The school sheltered Palestinians from different parts of the Gaza Strip, especially the northern parts. In central Gaza, another Israeli airstrike killed a mother and her five children in the Bureij refugee camp. More people were killed in shelling of tents housing the displaced Palestinians near the southern Gaza city of Rafah. The Israeli aggression which began in October has so far claimed the lives of nearly 40,200 and injured nearly 93-thousand others.
Biden's ‘misleading claims’
Hamas has condemned the U-S President’s recent claims that the resistance movement is backing away from a Gaza truce deal, calling Joe Biden’s remarks a green light for Israel to continue its genocidal war. In a statement, Hamas slammed Biden’s remarks as misleading claims that do not reflect the movement's true position, which is keen to reach a ceasefire deal. It said they show Washington’s clear bias in favor of Israel and its complicity in the Gaza genocide. Hamas further reaffirmed its commitment to a UN-backed deal that it agreed to in early July, saying Washington’s recent modifications to the agreement shows it’s giving in to Israel’s criminal plans toward Gaza. Hamas' statement comes as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in West Asia for a new round of ceasefire talks which faced a standstill last week.
Iran cabinet lineup debates
Iran’s parliament has begun the 4th day of debates on the ministerial picks of President Masoud Pezeshkian. Lawmakers discussed the qualification of the candidates for several key departments, including the ministry of industry, mine and trade; the ministry of science, research and technology as well as the interior ministry. A vote of confidence session is expected in the parliament on Wednesday. Iran’s constitution requires the president to get his ministers endorsed by the parliament. On Saturday, President Pezeshkian defended his picks in the chamber. He said everyone, regardless of party affiliations, must join hands to help overcome existing problems in the country.
