US-Israeli Gaza genocide

The Israeli regime’s airstrikes and artillery fire keep pounding the Gaza Strip, killing more innocent women and children across the besieged territory. The regime’s latest air raids struck two schools, which were used to house the displaced people in Gaza City. At least, 18 Palestinians, including children, were killed in the attack, which left 60 others injured and more than 40 missing. Three civilians were killed in the city’s Zeitoun neighborhood after an Israeli air raid hit a gathering of people. In the southern Gaza, at least five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on the town of al-Qarara, north of Khan Yunis. Earlier, the regime’s airstrike on a house at al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza had killed at least 15 people. The latest fatalities increased the death toll from the regime’s genocide to about 39,700, with over 91,700 others wounded.

Starvation in Gaza

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees says 96-percent of Gaza’s population faces crisis levels of hunger, as Israel’s total ban on entry of aid into the besieged territory continues. According to UNRWA, cases of malnutrition among children in northern Gaza have increased by 300-percent in just two months from May to July. The UN body called for an immediate ceasefire, stressing that Gaza needs more aid. The latest figures came after an Israeli extremist minister said it is justified and moral to starve two million Palestinians in Gaza. Bezalel Smotrich added that the move is needed to secure the release of Israeli captives. His comments drew worldwide condemnation. Since last October, Israel has been launching a war of starvation on Gazans, which has caused nearly 40 Palestinians to die of malnutrition so far.

Israel-EU tensions

The European Union has strongly condemned Israel's decision to revoke the diplomatic status of Norway's envoys to the Palestinian Authority. The bloc’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, called Israel’s move unwarranted. He said the decision disrupts the EU’s normal relations with the Palestinian Authority, adding that Norway has played a major role in supporting Palestinians. The Palestinian foreign ministry also accused Israel of resorting to baseless pretexts to put pressure on any government or international institution that tries to halt crimes and violations against Palestinians. Reacting to Israel’s decision, Norway’s foreign minister said it will have consequences for Oslo’s relations with Tel Aviv. Norway, along with Spain and Ireland, has already announced its decision to recognize the Palestinian state. The move has increased the number of UN member states recognizing a Palestinian state to 146.
