US-Israeli Gaza genocide

Israel keeps raining down bombs and shells on Gaza, killing at least 30 Palestinians in its fresh attacks. Most of the new killings took place in the flashpoint city of Khan Yunis. Seventeen civilians lost their lives in an airstrike on a residential building, while three others were killed after Israeli warplanes bombed tents housing the displaced in the Al-Mawasi area. A number of other Palestinians also fell victim to separate attacks on Khan Yunis. Gaza City was not safe from airstrikes either. Four civilians were killed in a fresh attack there. The death toll from the genocide in Gaza since October 7 has topped 39,320, most of them women and children. The US has been aiding and abetting Israel in its bombardment of Gaza, which makes Washington complicit in the genocide.

Israel displacement orders

A Geneva-based rights group says Israel’s evacuation orders and forced displacement of Palestinians all over Gaza amount to a war crime and a crime against humanity. In its statement, Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said two million Gazans have been forcibly displaced from their homes, most of them multiple times. The group accused Israel of forcing Palestinians to live in inhumane conditions on the streets and in tents while the regime continues its land, air and sea assault. Meanwhile, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said only 14-percent of Gaza is not under an displacement order. The UNRWA chief added that displacement is another form of torture and misery as Palestinians keep searching for safety, which does not exist anymore.

Venezuela presidential election

Vote counting has begun in Venezuela after polls closed in the highly-charged presidential election in the South American nation. Some 21 million of Venezuela's 30 million people were eligible to cast their ballots on Sunday. The turnout is still unclear, but long queues of voters were seen at polling stations, which closed at 6 p.m. local time. Incumbent President Nicolas Maduro is the frontrunner, with most pre-poll surveys giving him an edge over his contenders. If elected, this will be Maduro’s third term in office. The opposition parties have come together to support one candidate, that is, former diplomat and academic Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia. The economy and mass migration were main concerns for voters. Maduro has vowed to respect the results as various regional and other countries have insisted on free and fair elections in Venezuela.
