The Swedish police have cracked down on pro-Palestine protests in the capital Stockholm, arresting dozens of students.

Students had set up a peaceful protest encampment  at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) on Friday when police broke up the protest and arrested at least 30 students.

The police's forceful response, however, has sparked further protests with a group of students setting up tents in front of parliament in a show of solidarity with the detained students.

The encampment protest at KTH is part of a larger movement that began at Columbia University in the United States and has since spread to universities across the world.

Protesters demand that their universities and colleges divest from companies linked to or doing business with Israel or companies that support the regime’s savage military campaign in the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s military forces have killed more than 37,290 Palestinians since early October.

Across the besieged territory, residential areas have been left ruined; schools and hospitals destroyed and farmlands churned up.

Half of Gaza’s population is projected to face catastrophic hunger by mid-July, with all 2.2 million people unable to meet their food needs, according to the United Nations figures.
