Leader slams Qur’an desecration
The leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has categorically condemned the desecration of the holy Qur’an in Sweden. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khameni said the sacrilegious act was a bitter, conspiratorial, and dangerous move. The Leader added all top religious figures in the Muslim world agree that maximum punishment should be handed down to the perpetrator of this profane act. He said the Swedish government is, in fact, squaring off against the Muslim world by supporting the culprit and has incurred the hatred and enmity of Muslim nations and many Islamic governments. Ayatollah Khamenei said the Swedish government has a duty to hand over the perpetrator to the judicial bodies of Muslim countries. The Leader said those hatching such plots behind the scenes should know that the dignity and grandeur of the holy Qur’an will increase day by day.
Palestinian funerals
People in the occupied West Bank bid farewell to two Palestinians shot dead by Israeli forces on Friday. 18-year-old Fawzi Makhalfeh was fatally shot when regime forces opened fire on his car. The shooting took place in Sebastia village in Nablus. Israeli forces also killed another Palestinian during a raid on a village north of Ramallah on Friday. Several Palestinians were also injured there. Israeli military raids in the occupied West Bank have grown deadlier under the far-right cabinet led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The regime has so far killed at least 200 Palestinians since the start of the year.
Israel protests
Tens of thousands of Israelis have marched from Tel Aviv to al-Quds to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s judicial overhaul just two days before a critical vote on the issue. The rally is being held for the 29th straight week. Protesters called for scrapping the bill which they say will weaken the Israeli High Court’s ability to review cabinet decisions. They promised to camp outside the Knesset. Similar rallies are also being held in other towns and cities across Israel. The Knesset will hold a final vote on the matter on Monday. The bill will roll back some of the Supreme Court’s powers and give the ruling coalition decisive sway in picking judges. Critics say the legislation will open the door to corruption and abuses of power.
