Israel-Jenin onslaught
Iran says Israel experienced a new historic defeat in its recent brutal attack on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kan’ani said the raid was a blatant violation of international law and amounts to war crimes. He said the bigger defeat is for the supporters of the Tel Aviv regime. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said the devastation left behind in Jenin is a shameful moral failure for them. Kan’ani called on Palestinian authorities to show the world the destructions in the city so that the self-proclaimed advocates of human rights are even more disgraced.
US-China relations
The US Treasury Secretary has wrapped up her visit to China, which was dominated by talks over trade and tech disputes. Janet Yellen says Washington and Beijing have made some progress and will have more frequent contact in the future. She vowed that any curbs on US outbound investments would be “transparent” and “very narrowly targeted.” In an earlier address in Beijing, Yellen warned against the decoupling of the two economic powers. The Treasury secretary said the US and its allies will fight back against what she called China’s unfair economic practices. Beijing has in turn called on Washington to stop weaponizing and politicizing trade and tech. Those are just two of the host of sticking points between China and the US. Last month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken also visited Beijing. China says the US should take concrete actions to improve trade ties.
Sudan conflict
The United Nations warns that Sudan is facing a full-scale civil war after 22 people were killed in army airstrikes near the capital Khartoum.UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the air strike in Omdurman, adding that the situation in Sudan can potentially destabilize the entire region. Sudan’s Health Ministry says many were also wounded in the air raids. The North African country has been the scene of a conflict driven by a power struggle between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since mid-April. Thousands of people have been killed ever since. Witnesses have also reported waves of sexual violence. The conflict has caused a humanitarian crisis and displaced over two-and-a-half million Sudanese. Several ceasefire attempts have failed to stop the fighting.
