Promoting Islamic unity in Hajj
The leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei reiterates that the aim of Hajj is to promote Islamic unity against oppression and arrogance. Addressing officials and a group of pilgrims, Ayatollah Khamenei described Hajj as the most important ritual. He said the occasion marks the practical manifestation of Islam’s opposition to geographical, racial, class and other distinctions. This comes at a time, the leader added, when the self-proclaimed civilized countries are still struggling with black and white as well as European and non-European racial bias. Ayatollah Khamenei further noted that Muslims perform their Hajj rituals as if they are all from a single race and nationality. Some 89,000 Iranians are set to travel to Saudi Arabia this year to perform the annual hajj pilgrimage.
