The Iranian negotiating team left the Austrian capital, Vienna, Tuesday morning following the European Union's latest bid to salvage the 2015 deal.
Tehran will now discuss proposals after assessing the text submitted by the European Union. The latest round of the Vienna talks involved Iran, Russia, China, Germany, France and Britain and lasted for four days. The US meanwhile remains sidelined due to its unilateral withdrawal from the accord in 2018.
Press TV managed to speak with a senior advisor of the Iranian delegation who acknowledge progress in the talks but added that Tehran remains distrustful and maintains a cautious approach.
Speaking to journalists, Russia's envoy appeared confident following the talks.
Despite the positive ambiance surrounding the Vienna talks, western media reporting of the negotiations has been censured by Iran. Tehran's negotiating team has dismissed as false suggestions by Western media that remaining issues have been resolved.
Iran says it’s determined to get a deal which could uphold its rights and guarantee the enduring and effective removal of sanctions. The thing is that even if a new deal is reached, when Joe Biden's eventually booted out, could the next US President pull another Trump stunt? But with Europe's economy facing continued hardship over the war in Ukraine, perhaps it is Western countries which will be more in need of a resolution than Iran.
