Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says Iran and Turkey have an important role in resolving regional issues due to their great status both in the region and the Islamic world.
“Iran and Turkey, as two great powers in the region and the Islamic world, have an important role in resolving regional issues and problems,” Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Wednesday, during which he congratulated Turkey’s leader on the occasion of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha (feast of Sacrifice).
He hailed the continuous and good relationship between the two neighboring countries in all areas of bilateral relations, including economic, political, cultural and international ones.
Emphasizing the need to continue their cooperation in the future and the development and deepening of bilateral ties, Rouhani said,” Iran and Turkey have a responsible and cooperative approach in various global and regional issues and matters affecting the Islamic world, which has helped solve the region's problems through dialogue and negotiation.”
The Turkish leader, for his part, offered his congratulations to the Iranian government and nation on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and described Tehran-Ankara relations as cordial and developing.
“Turkey and Iran have common positions and cooperation on important regional and international issues,” Erdogan added.
He praised efforts by Rouhani over the past eight years to develop and deepen strategic relations and cooperation between the two countries and underlined the need to continue cooperation to contribute to the growing trend of relations in the future.
Pointing to the special situation prevailing in the region and Iran’s important position and role in helping resolve important regional issues, the Turkish president stressed the need for cooperation between the two neighbors to resolve the crises, including those in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
