Documentary film calls on British government to account for David Kelly’s suspicious death

Dr David Kelly was an expert on biological warfare who had access to some of the darkest secrets relating to the UK's decision to invade Iraq in March 2003

On the 18th anniversary of David Kelly’s death there are growing calls on the government to clarify the circumstances which led to his suspicious demise.

Kelly, popularly referred to as Dr Kelly, was a former government scientist who dissented from the British establishment’s propaganda on Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction in the lead-up to the Iraq War in March 2003.

In the immediate aftermath of the war in July 2003, he spoke to a BBC journalist about his reservations about the contents of the 2002 dossier on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.

Kelly’s off-the-record conversation with former BBC journalist Andrew Gilligan was his undoing as he came under intense pressure to retract his comments.

Kelly was found dead in woodland near his home in Oxfordshire and the official story is that he committed suicide.

On the day of his death Kelly had emailed a journalist contact complaining of “many dark actors playing games”.

But 18 years later a new documentary exploring the circumstances behind the suspicious death is aiming to raise awareness about the event, in particular mooting the possibility of Kelly having been murdered at the behest of the British secret state.

The documentary - appropriately called Killing Kelly - is written by former maverick MP George Galloway and directed by the Irish filmmaker Seán Murray.

The film’s premiere has already generated intense interest on the issue with the former Labor MP, Chris Williamson, tweeting that the documentary demonstrates that “on the balance of probabilities” Dr Kelly did not commit suicide.

Just attended the premiere of the explosive new film Killing Kelly, which demonstrates on the balance of probabilities that Dr David Kelly did not kill himself 18 years ago. This is a cover-up by the British state. Unredacted documents must be released alongside a proper inquiry! pic.twitter.com/bRxRIamoRB
