Iran’s Yemen peace plan

Iran’s foreign minister warns the Saudi coalition and its US partners that the war on Yemen must be stopped. Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a tweet, called for “ceasefire, humanitarian assistance, intra-Yemeni dialogue and establishment of the broad-based government.” He also said the Saudi-led coalition and the US try to whitewash their crimes in Yemen by making allegations against Iran. The top Iranian diplomat once again reiterated that Tehran’s four-point plan still remains the only viable option to resolve the crisis in Yemen.

Iran’s complaint against Saudi Arabia

Tehran has written to the United Nations secretary general and the Security Council president, demanding action to counter Saudis’ conspiracies against Iran. Iran’s permanent representative to the UN said in the letters that Saudis are behind subversive plots against Iranian economy and security. Es’haq Al-e-Habib said this is backed by ample evidence, including Riyadh’s publicized plan to take the battle inside Iran. The envoy added that Saudis have sponsored recent terrorist attacks in Iran, and have tried to assassinate Iranian officials. Al-e-Habib said these are part of Saudis’ wider plan to destabilize the whole region. A few weeks ago, the New York Times revealed that Riyadh had tried to employ contractors to assassinate Iranian officials and sabotage the country’s economy.

UNGA Golan vote

The United Nations General Assembly has demanded that Israel withdraw from the entirety of the Golan Heights. The Assembly cast a majority vote in favor of a resolution that calls on Tel Aviv to withdraw from the area as far as the June 4th 1967 line. The resolution also reemphasizes the principle of what the UN calls the inadmissibility of acquiring lands belonging to others by force. The decision by the UNGA has prompted the Syrian delegation to the world body to express his country’s gratitude to those states that voted in favor of the motion. Israel seized parts of the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 war. The international community however, has never recognized the seizure of the strategically-important territory by Tel Aviv.

Russia request for JCPOA

The Russian president says it is necessary to do everything possible to keep Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal in force. Vladimir Putin made the remarks in a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires. He added that preserving Iran’s agreement, also known as the JCPOA, will prevent a new wave of tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program. On May 8, US President Donald Trump announced his country’s withdrawal from the accord. Trump’s move has been criticized by other signatories to the deal. China, France, Britain, Russia and Germany say Tehran has upheld its commitments under the agreement.

UK demand on Khashoggi killing

The British prime minister has urged the Saudi crown prince to hold to account those responsible for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Theresa May’s office said she made the remarks in her meeting with Mohammed bin Salman on the sidelines of the G20 summit. In the meeting, she stressed the importance of ensuring that Saudi Arabia takes action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Britain has come under pressure to stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia due to the high death toll of Yemeni civilians in air raids by the Saudi-led coalition. Human Rights Watch had earlier urged the G20 summit in Argentina to conduct an investigation into Khashoggi’s murder.

Iran destroyer

The Iranian navy has launched a domestically-built destroyer in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas. The advanced ship, nicknamed Sahand, joined the Iranian naval fleet in the Persian Gulf at a ceremony attended by the top military brass. Addressing the event, Army Commander Abdolrahim Mousavi hailed the achievement, saying it shows the navy’s capabilities to design, build and maintain different types of warships. Sahand is the third destroyer built by the navy. The stealth vessel is equipped with advanced missile systems and can fire various types of torpedoes. It has also electronic warfare capabilities and has a flight deck for helicopters. The destroyer can undertake long-distance missions and is able to remain at high seas for more than two months. The navy also launched two indigenous submarines earlier this week.

Prior to assuming the presidency, Bush served as the 43rd Vice President of the country. He was also a member of the Republican Party and held positions as a Congressman, ambassador and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. His presidency witnessed a number of international incidents including the end of the Cold War and the invasion of Kuwait by then Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. In 1990, Bush assembled an international coalition and ordered air and land attacks on Iraq, a policy that was seen the beginning of chaos in the Middle East.

UK minister resigns

The president of the European Council has warned British lawmakers not to vote against a Brexit deal reached between the EU and the British prime minister. The House of Commons will vote on the deal negotiated between UK Premier Theresa May and the bloc on December eleven. May has also said she has no plan B and is trying to persuade lawmakers to back the deal she’s negotiated. She accuses the opposition Labor Party of trying to betray the public over Brexit.
