Iran dismisses Netanyahu's ‘lies’

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi rejected accusations by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against the Islamic Republic as "ridiculous lies". Qassemi said such a show by Netanyahu was not far from mind. He made the comments in reaction to a speech by the Israeli prime minister at the UN General Assembly in which he accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. He showed an enlarged photo of what he claimed to be a secret nuclear facility in Iran. Qassemi said the US and Israel had failed to play out their anti-Iran scenario. He accused Washington and Tel Aviv of picking a quarrel with global peace and security. Qassemi further said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had repeatedly verified the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.

Iran's Arabs condemn Ahvaz terror attack

Iran’s Arab community has held a gathering to condemn a recent terror attack in the city of Ahvaz. Press TV’s Yusef Jalali has attended the event in the southwestern city of Susangerd.

Kavanaugh testifies before Senate panel 

US President Donald Trump's pick for the Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh has testified before a Senate panel over sex abuse allegations against him. Kavanaugh described the allegations against him as "vicious and false," adding that the case against him had destroyed him and his family. He added that he would not withdraw as Supreme Court nominee. The testimony came after the Senate panel heard from Professor Christine Blasey Ford that Kavanaugh had tried to rape her in the 1980s.

Medical negligence toward Bahraini prisoners 

The Amnesty International says Bahraini prisoners suffering cancer, multiple sclerosis and sickle-cell anaemia do not have access to medical care. The Amnesty has accused Bahraini authorities of negligence toward the fate of prisoners. Its stressed that its accounts showed healthcare in Bahrain's prison system was marred by regular instances of negligence, delay, and arbitrary exercise of authority. The advocacy group added that although medical treatment is provided, it is far from adequate.

Corbyn warns EU

Britain’s opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn warned that he would vote down anything that failed to satisfy his party’s criteria for the country's divorce from the European Union. Corbyn said the Labour party had already set out its views about issues surrounding Brexit. He said any exit deal must pave the way for the better protection of jobs, trade and workers’ rights. Corbyn also said that a hard Irish border must be avoided.

Zarif dismisses Netanyahu's claims

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Israel was in no position to level nuclear accusations against Tehran. Zarif made the comment in reaction to a speech by Israel's Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu at the UN General Assembly against Iran and recalled the fact that Israel had the only arsenal of nuclear weapons in the Middle East. The Iranian minister emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program had been repeatedly declared peaceful by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He said Netanyahu’s speech was merely aimed at distracting the world public opinion from the fact that the Israeli regime was the biggest threat to the Middle East.  

US calls for Maduro's ouster 

US Ambassador to the the United Nations Nikki Haley joined a group of Venezuelan protesters to call on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to step down. The protest was held outside the UN headquarters in New York City, one day after Maduro addressed the annual UN General Assembly meeting. Haley called on the demonstrators to continue protesting Maduro’s rule. The US has imposed sanctions on Venezuela over a list of accusations, including corruption and human rights abuses. Caracas says Washington is seeking regime change in Venezuela. Earlier this month, the New York Times reported that the US administration has held secret meetings with Venezuelan coup plotters over the past year. The report came after Maduro survived a drone attack during a military parade in Caracas in August.
