US North Korea warning

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula show no signs of abating as the US threatens to destroy North Korea if a war breaks out. Haley was speaking at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss North Korea’s latest missile test. China's deputy UN ambassador called for exercising restraint and resuming dialogue to resolve with the crisis. Wu Haitao referred to the Chinese-Russian proposal for North Korea to suspend all nuclear and missile tests and the US and South Korea to suspend all military exercises. Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia also made similar comments. The reactions came after Pyongyang said it has successfully tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile, ICBM, that can reach the entire US mainland.

Hariri resignation withdrawal

Lebanon's Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri has signaled that he may reverse his decision to step down. A statement released by Hariri’s press office quoted him as saying that “matters are positive” and that he will withdraw his resignation next week if the situation remains as such. The Lebanese premier had announced his resignation from Saudi Arabia on November 4. He then put the decision on hold last week after returning to Lebanon. Some Lebanese officials believe Hariri was forced to step down by Saudi officials, who are now pressuring him to push Hezbollah out of Lebanon’s politics.

US must leave Iraq: PMU commander

A senior commander with Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units says only the US in cooperation with European countries can stop the influx of terrorists into Iraq. Amiri made the comments during an exclusive interview with Press TV. Amiri also said Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units will call on the parliament to draw up legislation to demand the US withdraw all its troops from Iraq. He emphasized that the popular forces will not allow one US soldier to stay in Iraq.

‘Shameful’ Trump tweets

US President Donald Trump has hit back at British Prime Minister Theresa May after she criticized him for re-tweeting anti-Muslim videos. Trump said in tweet that the British premier should focus not on him but on what he called “the destructive radical Islamic terrorism” that is taking place within the United Kingdom. Trump's comment came after he was condemned by May's office for sharing hate messages posted by far-right group Britain First on Twitter.

Iran favors oil cut

The Iranian oil minister has reiterated Tehran’s support for the extension of the December 2016 agreement on cutting oil output. Bijan Namdar Zangeneh has made the comments in Vienna. He said the extension of the deal on cutting oil output will have a significant role in managing the market. The Iranian oil minister also said the rollover can benefit both producers and costumers. OPEC and non-OPEC producers of oil have been working for some time to restore the stability of the oil market. They are about to meet in the Austrian capital on Thursday to discuss a possible extension of output limits.

Libya slave trade

Libya has agreed with EU and African leaders to allow refugees facing abuse in detention camps to be evacuated within days or weeks. The decision was announced by French President Immanuel Macron on the sidelines of an EU-Africa summit in Ivory Coast’s capital Abidjan. This, after Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara called for urgent measures to end slave trading in Libya. Two weeks ago, American news channel CNN aired footage showing an apparent live auction in Libya where black men were put on sale as slaves. The video has drawn international outcry.

Argentina protests

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires to protest the government's proposed labor reforms. The crowd gathered in front of the national congress, holding banners supporting the retirees. The new wave of protests came following a press conference, where President Mauricio Macri announced his reform plan. He vowed to press ahead with reforms to the country's tax, labor and retirement systems. The president is seeking to reduce labor costs in order to attract foreign investors. Macri's coalition, Let's Change, swept five of the country’s most popular areas in the October mid-term elections, securing a stronger mandate to pass his reforms.

North Korea missile launch

North Korea has released footage showing the launch of its intercontinental ballistic missile test-fired on Tuesday. Pyongyang says the missile was launched from a newly-developed vehicle which it considered a breakthrough. It said the warhead can withstand the pressure of re-entering the atmosphere. The country’s leader Kim Jong-un personally guided the missile test and said the new launcher was impeccable. North Korea says the missile is its most advanced ICBM that puts the US mainland within range. The country has tested dozens of ballistic missiles under Kim Jong-un’s leadership. Pyongyang has said its weapons program is a necessary defense against US plans to invade the country. The United States, which has over 28,000 troops in South Korea, denies any such intention.

Bali volcano eruption

Indonesia is braced for a full-scale eruption from Mount Agung as the roaring volcano on the island of Bali continues to spew thick ash. The volcano in Bali began erupting on November 24. It has spread drifting ash over eight kilometers into the atmosphere and forced the island’s international airport to close for three days. Authorities have told tens of thousands of people to leave an area extending ten kilometers from Mount Agung as it belches grey and white ash plumes. The volcano’s last major eruption was in 1963. It killed about 1,100 people back then.
