Qatar's adversaries keep up pressure
Qatar's fellow Persian Gulf Arab states continue pressuring the country over its alleged support of some groups blacklisted by Saudi Arabia and its allies including Egypt. On Friday, US president Donald Trump also joined the fray by issuing a statement. Trump accused Doha of supporting terrorism. Saudi Arabia and Bahrain welcomed the US president's remarks. Meanwhile, some US lawmakers are pressing legislation at the House of Representatives, which would impose sanctions on Qatar for what has been described as its support for quote Palestinian terror.

US use of banned weapons
The people of Iraq and Syria have for years been bearing the brunt of foreign-backed wars on their countries. And the situation has dramatically escalated. Now reports have surfaced that the US-led forces used white phosphorus-loaded munitions in populated areas of Iraq’s Mosul and Syria’s Raqqah. A spokesman for the coalition said he would not confirm the use of the munition. However, Colonel Ryan Dillon acknowledged that the forces have access to white phosphorus-loaded munitions, saying: “The US military uses white phosphorus in accordance with the law of armed conflict. White phosphorus rounds are used for screening, obscuring, and marking in a way that fully considers the possible incidental effects on civilians and civilian structures.”
