US President-elect Donald Trump says he likes the Senate’s incoming New York Democratic leader more than the top Republicans in control of both chambers of the Congress.
In a phone interview with incoming Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, the future president told him that he favors him more than Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell or House Speaker Paul Ryan, a source close to the president-elect’s transition team told the New York Post Sunday.
The billionaire said “he likes Schumer more than Ryan and McConnell because they both wanted him to lose,” the source said, adding that “They are Republicans and Trump knows they didn’t support him.”
Both the top GOPers got engaged in rows with Trump in the run-up to the November 8 election, which gave Trump control over the White House.
According to Trump himself, they “weren’t in love with me” before the election but they “love him” after that.
Separately, the real estate mogul and reality TV star has described his relations with Schumer as “very good” and “close” in interviews.
The two New Yorkers have apparently spoken several times since the business tycoon gained electoral victory.
“These two fellows are both New Yorkers. Washington is like a cafeteria table. You sit where you know,” said a Capitol Hill source.
