Iran’s Vahedi ranks 1st in World Amateur Snooker Championships

Iranian cueist Soheil Vahedi has displayed noteworthy skills at the 42nd edition of the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Amateur Snooker Championships in Qatar, and ranked first at the conclusion of the tournament.

On Tuesday, Vahedi gained the admiration of the spectators at the al-Sadd Club Stadium in the Qatari capital city of Doha as he defeated 34-year-old former Welsh professional snooker player Andrew Pagett 8-1 in the final encounter.

Earlier, the Iranian snooker player had prevailed over Declan Brennan of Northern Ireland 7-6 in a closely fought semi-final meet, and booked a place at the final.

The 42nd edition of IBSF World Amateur Snooker Championships started in Doha, Qatar, on November 18, and concluded on November 29, 2016.

The event attracted more than 250 snooker players from 55 countries, including Albania, Germany, Iceland, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Poland and Scotland.

A total of $16,000 was up for grabs in the men’s event of the championships.  The women’s event carried a $6,000-purse, while $8,000 was available for the master players.

The winner of the championship's highest break in the men’s category received $500 cash reward plus certificate.

The highest break in the women’s class fetched $200, while $300 was at stake for the masters’ highest break.
