Bob Casey, Chris Coons bring number of US senators backing Iran deal to 33
More US senators are joining a growing chorus in support of the outcome of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries. Democratic senators Bob Casey and Chris Coons became the 32nd and 33rd supporters of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in the US senate. Senator Casey hailed the deal as "the best option available at this time". Senator Coons said the Vienna accord puts the US on a known path of limiting Iran’s nuclear program for the next 15 years. Democratic Senator Ben Cardin on Tuesday predicted that President Obama can garner 34 votes by the end of this week to sustain his possible veto of the Republican rejection of the deal. With 34 votes looking to be in reach, supporters have begun aiming to get 41 votes, which would block the disapproval resolution from passing in the first place. US lawmakers are to vote on the agreement later this month.

Group of American Jewish ex-lawmakers urge Congress to support Iran deal
Several American Jewish ex-lawmakers have urged the US Congress to support the Iran nuclear deal. The letter has been signed by 75 former Congressmen, including seven ex-Jewish members. It calls on the sitting lawmakers not to reject the nuclear conclusion reached between Iran and the P-Five-Plus-one group of counties. The group known as “the Win without War” says there’s no viable alternative to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or the JCPOA reached in July. It has also expressed support for the sanctions relief for Iran. Seventy-one of the signatories are Democrats, among them Jane Harman who once served in the House Intelligence Committee. The US congress is expected to vote on the deal in September.
