'Iran victim of terrorism'

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has addressed the United Nations General Assembly. He said Iran is the victim of US and Israeli terrorism. Addressing world leaders at the UN, President Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran has not attacked any nation in 200 years and that its defense systems and nuclear program are strictly for national self-defense and peaceful development. He denounced double standards in international diplomacy, pointing out that while the Israeli regime possesses uninspected nuclear weapons and commits atrocities with full US backing, Iran is targeted by brutal sanctions and inspections. Turning to the region, the Iranian president said Palestine remains an open wound and a symbol of international failure. Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran extends a hand of cooperation for peace from a position of strength, but warned that the bombing of Iranian cities will not go unanswered. He also said that Tehran will not allow any nation to use the Strait of Hormuz to impose their aggression upon the Iranian nation.

Defying US sanctions

Despite new US sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation, an Iranian passenger flight has landed in southern China, highlighting Beijing’s refusal to enforce Washington’s unilateral measures. Flight-tracking data shows the Mahan Air flight traveled from Tehran to Guangzhou, although its arrival was not listed on the airport’s public schedule. This comes as US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that airports and service providers assisting Iranian carriers could be excluded from the global dollar payment system. This could include entities that provide fuel, landing services or sell tickets. On Monday, Beijing rejected unilateral US restrictions on Iran, saying trade and civil aviation cooperation with Tehran remains lawful and legitimate under international standards.
