On Friday, hundreds of unionized dock workers gathered at the port of Civitavecchia, about 60 kilometers from Rome, to stage a demonstration against the growing militarization of key transport infrastructures in Italy.
The initiative followed an international day of strikes called by grassroots dock workers unions and joined by their counterparts in Greece, the Basque Country, Morocco and Turkey, with dock workers in more than 20 ports joining the industrial action.
