Israeli forces have fatally shot a Palestinian girl in northern Gaza, marking a fresh violation of the ceasefire agreement reached last year.

Medical sources reported that 11-year-old Hamsa Nidal Hawso was killed by Israeli army gunfire in the al-Falouja area west of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Thursday.

Witnesses reported that Israeli forces stationed east of the camp opened heavy fire on the area, hitting the girl and killing her.

Another Palestinian child was also injured after Israeli soldiers opened fire on a group of civilians in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City while Israeli artillery targeted the al‑Tuffah neighborhood on the city’s eastern side.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s governmental media office slammed the Israeli regime for refusal to open the Rafah crossing, saying the regime is using flimsy pretexts to keep the essential lifeline closed and perpetrate the siege.

It noted that more than 80,000 Palestinians abroad have applied to return to Gaza, but the occupation is obstructing their entry.

More than 71,400 people, mostly women and children, have been killed and over 171,000 others injured since the beginning of the Israeli regime’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023.

The UN rights office has urged Israel to end its “unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian territory, including by dismantling all settlements and evacuating all settlers, and to respect the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.”
