Hamas leaders attacked

The Israeli military says it has carried out an airstrike on the Hamas leadership quarters in Qatari capital Doha. The occupation army has confirmed attempting to assassinate top Hamas leaders in their residential compound which is surrounded by several other residential units. Reports indicate the strike took place while Hamas’s negotiating team was discussing a Gaza ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States. According to some media reports, Donald Trump has authorized the operation, however, the office of the Israeli prime minister says the regime has acted alone in its attack. According to Palestinian media, two people have been killed in the airstrike but not Hamas leaders.

Global condemnation of attack on Hamas

Condemnations pouring in following an Israeli attack on a gathering of Hamas negotiating team in Doha, Qatar. Iran was among the first to condemn the attack, with the foreign ministry spokesman calling it a cowardly attack. Ismail Baghaei said the extremely dangerous attack has crossed all the red lines of international rules and regulations. He warned if strong action is not taken against Tel Aviv, no country in the region will be safe from Israeli terrorism. Qatar called the Israeli strike a criminal attack which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, its sovereignty and security of its citizens. Doha has also decided to suspend its mediation efforts. The UN chief has also condemned the attack as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty.

Iran-IAEA cooperation

Iran’s Foreign Minister says Tehran and Egypt are determined to continue strengthening relations in the areas of mutual interest, including economic, trade, tourism, and cultural sectors. Heading a diplomatic delegation, Abbas Araghchi was welcomed by his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty in Cairo. The two also discussed Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. Araghchi underlined Tehran’s readiness to draft a new protocol for cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, following the 12-day imposed war on Iran. Abdelatty, for his part, reaffirmed the right of all signatories to the Non-Proliferation Treaty to pursue nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Araghchi also met with the director general of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi. This round of diplomacy between Iran and the Agency, held in Cairo, is seen as an opportunity to rebuild Iran’s weakened trust in the IAEA in the wake of the US-Israeli bombing of the country's peaceful nuclear facilities.
