Thousands join mourning procession in Kashmir to mark Ashura

Thousands of mourners in Indian-administered Kashmir have joined Muslims around the world to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala on the day of Ashura.

Ashura holds profound significance for Muslims worldwide, especially Shia Muslims. It commemorates the ultimate sacrifice of Imam Hussain and his followers in their stand against injustice and oppression under Yazid, the tyrant Umayyad caliph.

In Kashmir, the day is observed with intense and passionate religious devotion.
