US-Israeli Gaza genocide

Israeli airstrikes have intensified in the Gaza Strip, resulting in nearly two dozen deaths in the Palestinian territory since the early hours of Monday. Renewed Israeli attacks targeted the southern cities of Khan Younis and Rafah, with at least 15 bombings reported in Khan Younis alone. At least six Palestinians were killed when their tents were struck in the city, with four others being killed after Israeli forces shelled civilian cars. A few people were also killed in a fresh attack on Gaza City. Nuseirat refugee camp in the middle of the Strip witnessed a deadly attack early on Monday. The Ministry of Health in Gaza has announced that the total number of deaths and injuries reached 7% of Gaza's population since October 7, 2023.

Haifa shooting operation

At least one Israeli has been killed in an operation allegedly involving gunfire and stabbing near Haifa in northern occupied territories. The incident also left at least another Israeli injured. It took place on a road southeast of Haifa. Israeli media say the assailant was shot dead by Israeli forces. Palestinians living in the occupied lands have in the past launched similar operations in different parts of the territories. They say the operations are in retaliation for the deadly attacks on Palestinian villages as well as deadly Israeli campaigns in the Gaza Strip and in the occupied West Bank.

Turkey political turmoil

For the fifth consecutive night, thousands of protesters have held nationwide ralies across Turkey to condemn the jailing of Istanbul’s Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. People flooded the streets of Ankara and Istanbul, confronting police forces armed with water cannons and tear gas. On Sunday, a court ordered Imamoglu jailed, pending a trial on corruption charges. His arrest has led to the largest protests in over a decade in Turkey. His Republican People’s Party opened a long-planned primary voting beyond the party members to all people who wanted to vote. This lead to an unprecedented turnout with fifteen million voters choosing the jailed opposition politician as their presidential candidate. Meanwhile, France has condemned the Turkish opposition figure’s arrest as a serious attack on democracy. It has also emphasized the importance of Ankara’s commitment to protecting opposition rights.
