Gaza ceasefire deal

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas is preparing to release six more Israeli captives held in Gaza as part of a ceasefire deal with Israel. The regime is also expected to release more than 600 Palestinian abductees in return. The exchange is the final one under the first phase of a ceasefire agreement signed just over a month ago. On Thursday, Hamas handed over the remains of four Israeli captives who were killed in Israel’s bombings of the Gaza Strip. Israel claimed the body of one of the captives wasn't actually hers, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatening to make Hamas pay. Now, Hamas says it has handed over the body of that Israeli captive after investigating a possible error in identifying human remains handed to Israel.

Pro-Palestine rally

People have taken to the streets in the Jordanian capital to slam Israeli crimes and express solidarity with the Palestinian people, particularly those in the Gaza Strip. The protesters also slammed US President Donald Trump’s plan to displace Palestinians out of Gaza and take over the territory. Trump has called on Egypt and Jordan to take in and resettle Palestinians. However, both nations have rejected the demand. Trump announced his Gaza plan during a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this month. The proposal has since sparked condemnations and protests across the world.

The war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has said that the presence of Ukraine's President Volodimir Zelensky is not 'very important' in the negotiations aimed at ending war with Russia. In an interview, Trump said Zelensky’s presence makes it “very hard” to strike deals. Trump also said he has had very good talks with his Russian counterpart while describing his talks with Ukraine as not such good. Trump says Ukrainian leaders have no card to win in the peace talks . Meanwhile, Kiev and Europe have voiced their concerns about being sidelined after Trump initiated talks with Moscow to end the war. German Foreign Minister Analena Baerbock said that EU is increasing pressure on the Americans, warning that they have much to lose if they don’t stand on the side of Europe’s liberal democracies.
