'Severe lack of oxygen' in Gaza hospitals threatens lives, warns Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health in Gaza says hospitals in the strip are facing “a severe lack of oxygen” that threatens patients’ lives as a result of Israel’s 15-month war and its ongoing blocking of aid.

The ministry's warning came as it noted that Israeli forces had destroyed 10 central oxygen generating stations during the war.

According to the report, the attacks have impacted major medical facilities, including "al-Shifa Medical Complex, al-Rantisi Hospital, al-Durra Hospital, the Indonesian Hospital, al-Nasr Medical Complex, and the Sheikh Radwan Clinic."

The 10 destroyed stations were essential for supplying oxygen to “critical hospital units such as operating rooms, intensive care units, emergency wards, and neonatal incubators, as well as patients receiving home care.”

The ministry warned that Israel’s blocking of the entry of new oxygen generators into the strip “will exacerbate the crisis to levels that threaten the lives of patients."

‘Israel’s indirect genocide’

Mohammed Abu Salima, head of al-Shifa Medical Complex, said Israel has stopped its direct deadly attacks on Palestinians, but continues to kill them indirectly by blocking the entry of oxygen stations to hospitals in Gaza Strip, especially Gaza City and the northern areas.

He added that many patients in intensive care and premature babies have died due to the lack of oxygen cylinders, noting that there is only one oxygen cylinder filling station which is even hardly working.

That came despite a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas which was reached after 15 months of the regime's genocidal war on the strip. The war claimed the lives of at least 48,271 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 111,693 others.

The regime was forced to accept the ceasefire after falling short of realizing any of its wartime objectives, including freeing the captives, “eliminating” the Gazan resistance, and causing forced displacement of Gaza’s entire population to neighboring countries.
