US armed, equipped Al-Qaeda in Syria: Tulsi Gabbard

Tulsi Gabbard, the nominee for the US national director of intelligence

Tulsi Gabbard, the nominee for the US national director of intelligence, says the US government spent more than half a billion dollars on training and arming Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants in Syria.

During her confirmation hearing, Gabbard stated on Friday that the efforts to assist Al-Qaeda in Syria were part of America’s Timber Sycamore program, which was the CIA plan to overthrow the Syrian government.

Gabbard also referenced an email sent from former US national security adviser Jake Sullivan to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in which Sullivan admitted that “Al-Qaeda is on [America’s] side in Syria”.

Gabbard also pointed out the fact that the current government in Syria is controlled by HTS, an Al-Qaeda offshoot and that it is currently engaged in violence against religious minorities in the country.

In response to these statements, Gabbard was accused by Senator Mark Kelly of “repeating… Iranian information”.

The history of America’s support for Al-Qaeda goes back to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan when the US government supported many of the groups and individuals who would later be part of Al-Qaeda.

Al-Qaeda is a Wahhabi terrorist group that has been involved in many attacks against civilians in West Asia, which have left thousands, both Muslims and non-Muslims, dead.

The group is claimed to have been responsible for many terrorist attacks in Europe and the US, the deadliest of which was the 9/11 attacks, which killed around 3,000 people.

In addition to causing massive civilian casualties, Al-Qaeda’s actions have also been used by anti-Muslim groups to incite hatred and violence against all Muslims.
