Aftermath of Gaza genocide
Palestinians have recovered dozens of bodies buried under the rubble with thousands more still missing as the ceasefire with the Israeli regime continues to hold for a third day. The Palestinian Civil Defense says 1,037 bodies have been found from the destroyed city of Rafah since the start of the ceasefire. Another 58 bodies have been recovered from other areas in the southern parts of the strip and eight from the north. In some cases, the bodies were left buried for months, as Israel’s pounding of the besieged territory made the already difficult task of identifying the dead harder. Ten thousand people are believed to be buried under the rubble. On Monday, Israeli snipers shot and killed three Palestinians, including a small child in Rafah despite the ceasefire. After 15 months of war, the death toll has surpassed 47,000 Palestinians with over 111,000 others wounded.
Israeli settlers' violence
Israeli settlers have attacked several towns and villages in the occupied West Bank, leaving over 20 Palestinians injured. Witnesses say settlers set fire to Palestinian-owned vehicles and buildings. They say the attacks were conducted under the protection of Israeli soldiers. Regime forces have also set up military checkpoints and closed roads, preventing Palestinians from entering or leaving several areas in the occupied West Bank. Hamas has condemned the latest attacks. It says the escalating settler terrorism must be met with increased resistance in all its forms. The UN human rights office has also expressed alarm over the wave of renewed violence that it says coincided with the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire deal. Over 800 Palestinians have lost their lives in Israeli attacks since regime began its genocidal campaign in Gaza in October 2023.
Day 1 executive orders
US President Donald Trump has signed slew of executive orders on Day one of his presidency as he blasts his predecessor. Trump rescinded sanctions imposed by the former administration on far-right Israeli settler groups and individuals accused of being involved in violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. In another order, the president issued pardons for about 1,500 people convicted or criminally charged in the January 6 attack on the US. Capitol. Trump also declared an emergency on the southern border with Mexico. In new directives, the US also withdrew from the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement.
