The Israeli military has left behind widespread destruction in areas north of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, destroying close to 70 percent of buildings in Hamad City alone.

Yamen Abu Sulaima, civil defense spokesman in Khan Younis, made the remarks on Sunday, as the Israeli regime continues its relentless bombardment of the northern areas of Khan Younis.

He went on to say that the devastation is particularly severe and “the suffering is even bigger” in Hamad City where Israeli warplanes have reduced to rubble dozens of residential buildings.

“Hamad City is almost a distressed area, close to 70 percent of the buildings are destroyed. Our crews are hoping to recover some of the bodies. However, the civil defense crews lack heavy machinery. We really need it in these situations,” Abu Sulaima said.

Earlier in the day, Palestinian media published pictures of the latest situation in Hamad City, north of Khan Younis, showing that all signs of life in the area have completely disappeared.

Israeli forces began bombarding Khan Younis on July 22, forcing about 180,000 people to flee — many of whom have been displaced four or five times or more.

The Israeli military has issued expulsion orders for Palestinians residing in the southern Gaza city multiple times. Such evacuation orders generally signal imminent ground assaults by the barbarous Israeli war machine.

Back in July, an Israeli ground aggression claimed the lives of dozens of Palestinians there.

Israel launched its brutal war on Gaza on October 7 last year after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out a historic operation against the usurping regime in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Since the start of the aggression, the Israeli regime has killed at least 40,334 Palestinians, mostly women and children. Another 93,356 Palestinians have sustained injuries as well.
