US-Israeli genocide

It is day 323 of the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza; relentless air and artillery strikes continue to pound the blockaded territory. In one of the attacks, at least four people were killed after Israel bombed a Palestinian home in Ain Jalut residential towers in the Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza. Casualties were also reported following an Israeli bombing near the city of Deir al-Balah. To the south of the Gaza Strip, two Palestinians were killed after an Israeli drone hit the al-Katiba neighborhood. Israeli occupation forces also opened fire on tents housing the displaced Palestinians in Khan Yunis, killing at least three people. The regime's shelling of several areas in Gaza also left an unknown number of Palestinians dead. The Israeli aggression on Gaza which began in October has so far claimed the lives of nearly 40,300 Palestinians and injured more than 93,000 others.

ICC calls for arrest warrant

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has urged judges to issue arrest warrants for those involved in crimes committed in Palestine, including in the besieged Gaza Strip. Karim Khan said his application is based on evidence collected and examined by his office and that the perpetrators must bear responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed since at least 7 October 2023. He was referring to the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza following the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood launched by the Hamas resistance movement in response to decades of atrocities against Palestinians by the occupying regime. Khan had requested arrest warrants for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his War Minister Yoav Gallant in June arguing that he had reasonable grounds to do so. The Israeli premier then described the ICC prosecutor's move as "absurd" while his key backer, the United States called the request for arrest warrants “cruel".

Marking Arba'een

Millions of Muslims from across the world are converging on the Iraqi holy city of Karbala to commemorate Arba’een. The occasion marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam. The pilgrims, also from Iran, are making the journey toward Karbala on foot. The Iraqi city houses the Shrine of Imam Hussein who’s the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. The Imam and 72 of his companions were martyred on Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar calendar month of Muharram, nearly fourteen centuries ago by the tyrant of their time Yazid in an unequal battle in Karbala. The annual pilgrimage of Arba’een is one of the largest religious congregations in the world. This year, Arba’een falls on August 25.
