US-Israeli Gaza genocide
The US-Israeli genocide in Gaza continues to claim the lives of more women and children as the Tel Aviv regime keeps pounding the blockaded territory with air and artillery attacks. In one of the latest strikes, at least three civilians were killed and a number of others injured after a house was struck in Gaza City. In southern Gaza, nine civilians, including three children, were killed in regime’s airstrikes on Rafah and Khan Yunis. Gaza Civil Defense says two of its members were killed by Israeli forces in the south of Gaza, increasing the number of its slain members to 82. Hunger and malnutrition are also taking their toll with a four-year-old girl being the latest child to die of malnutrition and lack of medical treatment. That brings the total number of Palestinian victims of malnutrition in Gaza to 37. The Israeli aggression, which began early last October, has so far killed nearly 40,000 Palestinians and injured nearly 92,300 others.
Gaza ceasefire efforts
Iran’s Permanent ambassador to the UN office in Geneva says Israel is trying to undermine Palestinians’ fight for freedom and independence by assassinating Hamas leaders. In letters addressed to three senior UN human rights officials, Ali Bahreini said the measures taken by Israel against civilians in Palestine are clear examples of terrorism. He said the regime seeks to obliterate Palestine’s political identity and strip the Palestinian people of their right to have an independent state. Bahreini stressed that Israel must recognize Palestinians’ right to self-determination in line with the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice. The Iranian ambassador also urged the UN to vehemently condemn the recent assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran. Bahreini said the assassination of Haniyeh constituted a flagrant violation of international law that requires a decisive and clear condemnation.
Slamming Israeli terrorism
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees has sounded the alarm about the impact of the Israeli aggression against Gaza on the education of Palestinian children. According to UNRWA’s commissioner general, about 625,000 children across the blockaded territory have lost one year of school. Philippe Lazzarini said Israel’s strikes on Gaza have rendered most of its schools unusable, as four in five school buildings have been directly hit or damaged. He said 95-percent of schools destroyed by Israel were being used as shelters for the displaced people of Gaza. Lazzarini also condemned Israel’s strikes on schools as a sign of the regime’s blatant disregard for international humanitarian law. He warned that the longer children stay out of school, the more difficult it becomes for them to catch up on learning losses.
