A Ukrainian drone has killed a Russian journalist in the town of Vuhledar in the western Donetsk region.

“Our correspondent Nikita Tsitsagi was killed during an attack by Ukrainian army drones,” News.ru posted on Telegram on Sunday.

It said the attack happened around the Saint-Nicolas monastery near the town of Vugledar, the scene of fierce fighting for the past three months.

The incident takes place two days after the death of another Russian journalist near the front line.

The other journalist, who worked for the Russian state television NTV channel, was killed on Thursday in a Ukrainian drone strike in Golmivsky, a Russian-controlled village close to the front line in the Donetsk region.

"One of two Russian state journalists wounded near the front line in Ukraine on Thursday has died," the Mayor of Gorlivka announced in a message posted on Telegram. Ivan Prikhodko added, "One of the journalists, Valery Kozhin, passed away."

Earlier this month, President Vladimir Putin said that “at least 30” Russian journalists had been killed on the front line since the start of the conflict in Ukraine. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine.

Ukraine deliberately targets Russian journalists reporting from the Ukraine front line, according to Russia's foreign ministry.

The journalists were either targeted while reporting in the field, especially by direct gunfire near the front line, or in attacks on TV towers, media outlets, or places frequented by civilians and journalists, such as hotels.

Russia’s Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said it was treating Kozhin’s death as murder, as well as a case of “obstruction of the legitimate professional activities of journalists.”
