Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Akbar Ahmadian says a strong Syria will benefit the region's security and stability.
In a meeting with Syrian Defense Minister Ali Mahmoud Abbas in Tehran on Sunday, Ahmadian said the expansion of mutual relations will serve the interests of both sides and all the regional nations.
He hailed great achievements made by the resistance front in combating Israel during its genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza and said more should be done to support it.
The Iranian security chief also commended the resistance of the Syrian government and nation as a member of the resistance axis in the face of the Israeli regime and terrorist groups.
Regretfully, the United States, Israel and terrorist groups are still occupying parts of Syria, he said.
Ahmadian urged the development of Tehran-Damascus relations in all fields, particularly in the economic and pilgrimage sectors.
The Syrian defense minister, for his part, thanked Iran's support for his country and stressed the importance of further developing all-out ties.
Referring to Israel's war in Gaza over the past five months, Abbas said the world is not the same after the Operation al-Aqsa Storm launched by Gaza-based resistance groups against Israel.
All the developments in the Gaza Strip exposed Israel's vulnerability to the world, he added.
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Storm on October 7, penetrating deep into the territories occupied by the Israeli regime, by carrying out large-scale air, land, and sea strikes.
The group said the operation was a reaction to the recurring desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied al-Quds as well as intensified Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Since the start of Israel’s latest brutal aggression, more than 31,645 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed and about 73,676 others have been injured.
The regime has also intensified the siege of Gaza, leaving the city, home to more than 2.3 million Palestinians, without water, electricity, fuel and internet.
In a meeting with his Syrian counterpart on Saturday, Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani warned against plots by the US and Israel to intensify the crisis across West Asia and voiced Iran's full readiness to assist Syria in enhancing its defense and deterrent power.
