Israeli forces kill Palestinian in ramming attack at West Bank checkpoint

Israeli forces have killed a Palestinian driver after a truck-ramming attack at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian ran over Israelis on Thursday morning with a truck near the Maccabim checkpoint west of the city of Ramallah and fled the scene, according to Israeli media reports.

Then, he drove toward the nearby Hashmonaim checkpoint, where he was shot by Israeli forces.

The Palestinian driver, identified as Dawood Abdel Razak Faiz, a 41-year-old father of five, was taken to a hospital in serious condition, and later died of his wounds.

The Israeli police said the Palestinian was with an Israeli work permit.

One Israeli was also killed and five others wounded, including three soldiers, in the attack.

The attack came as tensions have remained high across the occupied West Bank, amid a string of near-nightly raids by the Israeli army and attacks by extremist settlers as well as Palestinian retaliatory operations.

At least 230 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the start of the year.

Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qanou said, "The occupation army and its settlers will continue to pay the price for the crimes of their extremist government. The resistance of our people will continue to escalate."
