Russia has launched a retaliatory attack, targeting Ukraine's capital city Kiev and the port city of Odesa, following recent drone attacks on Moscow.

Russian unmanned-aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeted Kiev from different sides, while also inflicting damages on port infrastructure in Odesa region, Ukrainian authorities claimed on Wednesday.

Kiev Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said Russia's nighttime drone attack on the capital caused damages in several districts of the city, including in the busy Solomyansky, which hosts an international airport. However, no one was killed or wounded in the attack, he said.

Kiev's military administration said more than 10 Russian drones were downed during the overnight attack on the capital.

"Groups of drones entered Kiev simultaneously from several directions. However, all air targets -- more than 10 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) -- were detected and destroyed in time by the forces and means of air defense," said Sergiy Popko, head of the administration.

A fire broke out in a non-residential building in Golosiivsky district, he said, adding that emergency services were on the scene. Debris reportedly fell in three districts.

Elsewhere, Ukraine's air force said during the night, Russian drones headed for the Danube River, where Ukraine has two ports, Izmail and Reni.

In Izmail, a Russian drone targeted port facilities, damaging a grain warehouse.

"The enemy's obvious target was the port and industrial infrastructure of the region. Air defense forces worked non-stop for almost 3 hours," Ukrainian forces Operational Command South wrote on Telegram.

"As a result of the attack, fires broke out at the facilities of the port and industrial infrastructure of the region, and an elevator was damaged,” regional governor Oleg Kiper said, adding that there were no reports of casualties.

Last week, Russian drones allegedly targeted grain warehouses in Reni, further up the Danube River.

Meanwhile, Russian forces on Tuesday shot down a Ukrainian drone in the Sevastopol district of Crimea amid Kiev's increased UAV attacks on Russian targets.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the capital city was targeted by several drones overnight on Tuesday.

Sobyanin wrote on his Telegram channel that a high-rise building that had come under attack earlier was struck for a second time.

“One [of the drones] flew into the same tower at the Moskva Citi complex hit previously. The facade has been damaged on the 21st floor. Glazing was destroyed over 150 square meters.”

"Several drones attempting to fly into Moscow were downed by anti-aircraft fire," Sobyanin wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

There were no reports of casualties from Tuesday's attack.

The Russian capital city of Moscow, which has been targeted by Kiev's drones several times till now, is about 500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
