Extremist Danish group again desecrates Qur’an in affront to Muslim world

In yet another affront to Islam, two members of an extremist Danish group have desecrated a copy of the Holy Qur’an in front of the Iraqi embassy in the Nordic country’s capital of Copenhagen.

The two individuals, who were from the Islamophobic and far-right nationalist group Danish Patriots, burned a copy of the Muslim holy book in Copenhagen on Monday and live-streamed the sacrilegious act on Facebook.

Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen condemned the desecration as an “act of stupidity,” but went on to say burning religious books is not a crime in Denmark.

The Iraqi News Agency (INA) cited the country's foreign ministry as saying that Baghdad had called on the European Union's authorities to "quickly reconsider so-called freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate" after the latest insult to the Holy Qur'an.

The extremist Danish group perpetrated a similar act of desecration last week, which was met with strong condemnation from the Iraqi nation and the Muslim community.

Thousands of Iraqis demonstrated in Baghdad on Saturday over the recurring insults to the holy Muslim book in Europe.

Iran says European states must prevent recurrence of Qur’an desecration

Iran says the European countries must take effective measures aimed at preventing the repetition of the Holy Qur’an desecration.

Over the past month, the Holy Qur’an has been subject to acts of desecration by extremist elements in separate incidents in Sweden and Denmark, which were perpetrated under the aegis of the respected governments.

The sacrilegious moves have drawn the ire of the whole Muslim community, prompting the summoning or expulsion of Swedish and Danish envoys from several Muslim-majority countries.

Earlier on Monday, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said European countries must adopt proper measures aimed at preventing the recurrence of Holy Qur’an desecration by extremist individuals or groups.

Holding a copy of the Qur’an at his weekly press briefing in Tehran, Nasser Kan’ani once again denounced the recent act of sacrilege against Islam’s most revered book in Sweden and said insult to “divine and Abrahamic religions is unacceptable and cannot be justified by any means.”

OIC to hold emergency meeting on recurring Qur’an desecration in Europe: Iraq

Iraq has announced that the OIC plans to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the recurring acts of the desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Europe.

Iraq’s Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) plans to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the recurring acts of the desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Europe.

The ministry said in a statement that the meeting is in response to two requests submitted by Iraq’s Foreign Ministry to the OIC over the incidents in Sweden and Denmark, which provoked the feelings of about two billion Muslims around the world.
