At least 10 Palestinians have been killed and more than 100 wounded in an Israeli army raid in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

The Palestinian health ministry said in a statement that nine people died from critical wounds sustained on Wednesday after Israeli occupying troops stormed Nablus, local media reported.

At least 102 others were injured, many of them hit by live ammunition, the ministry said.

Those killed were identified as Adnan Sabe’ Baara, 72; Mohammad Khaled Anbousi, 25; Tamer Minawi, 33; Musab Owais, 26; Hossam Isleem, 24; Mohammad Abu Bakr, 23; Muhammad Abdel-Fattah Abdel-Ghani, 23; Walid Riyad Hussein Dakhil, 23; Abdel-Hadi Abdel-Aziz Ashqar, 61 and Muhammad Farid Shaaban, 16.

Massive confrontations broke out after the Israeli army raided Nablus with dozens of armored vehicles and special forces at 10 a.m. local time (0800 GMT).

The occupying army blocked off all entrances to the city, reports said, before surrounding a home belonging to Palestinian resistance fighter, Hossam Isleem. His fate remains unclear.

The Lions’ Den armed group said in a statement that it engaged in clashes with Israeli regime forces during the military raid, alongside the recently announced Balata Brigades group.

Ahmed Jibril, director of ambulance and emergency services at the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Nablus, said Israeli forces are preventing medical staff from reaching the besieged area, where armed clashes are going on.

Israeli forces launch raids on cities across the occupied West Bank almost on a daily basis under the pretext of detaining what the regime calls “wanted” Palestinians. The raids usually lead to deadly confrontations with residents.

Over the past months, Israel has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

On January 26, Israeli forces raided the city of Jenin and its neighboring refugee camp in the north of the occupied West Bank, killing ten Palestinians in one of the deadliest raids in years.

The United Nations marked 2022 as the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank in 16 years.

Israeli forces killed at least 171 Palestinians in the West Bank and occupied East al-Quds last year, including more than 30 children. At least 9,000 others were also injured.
