Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Tehran will take retaliatory action against a recent "unconstructive" anti-Iran resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks while addressing domestic and foreign reporters at a joint press conference with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Albusaidi following two rounds of talks in Tehran on Saturday.

He said the IAEA Board of Governors made an "unconstructive" move by adopting the anti-Iran resolution as a delegation comprising of officials with Iran's Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran held "constructive" talks with the agency's Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi in Vienna some two weeks ago.

However, Amir-Abdollahian said, the anti-Iran draft resolution was unexpectedly proposed to influence the internal situation in Iran and in line with the United States' so-called maximum pressure policy against Tehran.

The draft resolution, ratified on Thursday, has criticized Iran for what it called a lack of cooperation with the agency. It was put forward by the United States, Britain, France and Germany, in continuation of their political pressures on Iran. Russia and China voted against the motion.

The top Iranian diplomat emphasized that the UN nuclear agency has once again been abused for politically-motivated purposes.

"We will take a retaliatory and effective measure while adhering to the international law and our international obligations," Amir-Abdollahian said.

Iran’s Ambassador to the international organizations in Vienna Mohsen Naziri-Asl on Friday strongly condemned the recent resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors against Tehran.

He said that in the course of discussing the issue, “the supporters of the draft resolution presented fake information and baseless claims to justify their unconstructive approach to the Board of Governors and tried to turn the meeting into a tool to pursue their short-sighted political goals while going beyond the framework of the agency’s duties and powers.”

Terrorist attacks in Khuzestan, Fars provinces in line with US, West maximum pressure policy

Elsewhere in the presser, Amir-Abdollahian said the recent terrorist attacks in the southern city of Shiraz and the southwestern city of Izeh were in line with the maximum pressure policy of the US and some European states against Iran.

Seven people, including a child and a woman, lost their lives and ten more were wounded after two gunmen started shooting at people in the center of the city of Izeh located in Khuzestan Province on Wednesday.

Security officials in Khuzestan said that two gunmen on motorbikes started shooting at people and law enforcement officers in the center of the town, using war weapons.

The terrorist act came only three weeks after 15 pilgrims, including a woman and two children, were martyred and 19 others wounded in a terrorist attack on Shah Cheragh holy shrine in the city of Shiraz in Fars province. The Daesh terrorist group immediately claimed responsibility for that terrorist attack.

Amir-Abdollahian said over the past days and weeks, the enemies of Iran have tried to influence the country's internal situation by taking advantage of the feelings of the Iranian people and carrying out meddlesome actions.

Oman condemns any terrorist, violent act

The Omani foreign minister also said that his country condemns any type of terrorist and violent act and vowed to cooperate with Iran in the fight against terrorism.

Albusaidi added that Muscat is pursuing the policy of good neighborliness with Tehran and stressed the importance of implementing the agreements already signed between the two sides.

He said Oman has always tried to provide security for shipping and commercial ships as it would serve the interests of regional countries.

He added that challenges and differences should only be settled through dialogue and diplomacy.
