Amid mutual accusations of obstructing the UN-brokered truce, the UN Security Council called on both parties of the war in Yemen to urgently intensify peace talks in order to expand their truce that could translate into a durable cease-fire.
Observers say the national delegation will likely reject the renewal of the truce since no progress has been made so far to find a solution regarding paying the government employees, whose salaries are suspended since 2016 as a result of the Saudi war on Yemen.
The security council highlighted the tangible benefits of the UN-brokered truce to the Yemeni people including the flow of fuel through Hodeidah port. However, the Yemeni Petroleum Company says Saudi Arabia is still imposing restrictions on fuel imports.
Yemenis say the Saudi-led coalition has not fulfilled its commitments under the UN agreement over the past months. Therefore, the national delegation says it will continue the talks only to reach a solution that completely ends the war and siege.
