Dragan Skocic has been dismissed as Iran’s football head coach, with little more than four months to go to the World Cup finals in Qatar.
The technical committee of the Iranian Football Federation held a meeting on Monday, and decided that the Croatian coach will not accompany the Iranian national football team in the 2022 World Cup.
Skocic started working with Team Melli in February 2020, replacing Marc Wilmots, and guided the Cheetahs to the top spot, ahead of South Korea, in the final round of the Asian World Cup qualifying.
The 53-year-old Croat won 15 of his 18 games in charge, but lost two of his last three matches, including a 2-1 friendly defeat to Algeria last month. The national federation has not yet announced a replacement.
Iran are in Group B, and will kick off their World Cup campaign against England on Nov. 21, before taking on Wales, and the United States.
