Support for MKO terrorists within EU condemned

The European Union moves to distance itself from the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization after the prime minister of Slovenia participated in the terrorist organization's annual conference. Rights activists say any support given to the MKO by EU officials must be condemned.

Slovenia took over the rotating presidency of the EU just two weeks ago and already the country's prime minister, Janez Jansa, is embroiled in a diplomatic catastrophe. On Saturday, Jansa participated in the annual conference of the MKO terrorist group which wants to overthrow the Iranian Government.

Borrell has been quizzed on the matter by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. Over some four decades the MKO has murdered more than 12,000 Iranians. Each year, high profile, anti-Iran figures are paid huge sums to speak at the MKO annual conference.

Just prior to the pandemic a group of anti-MKO activists were invited to the European Parliament to discuss the terrorist organization. The Alabian Government was accused of seriously damaging the interests of the country by allowing the MKO to have its highly secretive headquarters there.

At that meeting in the parliament a former member of the organization, Anne Khodabandeh, described the MKO as a very disturbing cult and said its members are modern-day slaves. Another expert said the group is doing all in its power to destroy relations between Rome and Tehran by intimidating Italian businesses and aggressively lobbying politicians.

Rights campaigners have nothing good to say about the MKO.

Fresh calls are being made on the EU to ban the MKO and for Albania to close down the cult's HQ given that the compound is located in a NATO country.
