Syria says Israel is a “rogue entity” that poses grave threats to the global peace and security, and its danger is no less than that of terrorist groups, including Daesh.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, in two identical letters addressed to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and rotating President of the UN Security Council Sven Jürgenson, warned about the threats posed by Israel against Syria and other regional countries and called for international action.

“Syria is certain that people in these (regional) countries are all aware of the fact that Israel is a rogue entity for the international community, and it poses threats to the international peace as well as security, and its danger is no less than those being presented by Daesh and al-Nusra Front," now called Jabhat Fateh al-Sham Takfiri, the letters highlighted.

The ministry urged the Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities within the framework of the UN Charter to oblige the Tel Aviv regime to fully respect the terms of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and to hold to account all parties that sponsor terrorism and launch attacks on Syrian soil.

“Syria reiterates once again that Israel’s repeated terrorist acts against Syria and other countries of the region, which have escalated especially with the recent onslaught in the occupied Palestinian lands, would have been impossible without support and protection of the US and its Western allies. Their illegal and dishonest justifications encourage the Israeli regime to carry on its aggression and arrogance,” the Syrian foreign ministry pointed out.

The ministry added that Israeli forces carried out a fresh act of aggression against Syrian territories on Tuesday night, when they launched a "barrage of missiles from the direction of Lebanese territory, targeting central and southern regions in Syria" and renewed calls on the UN Security Council to condemn repeated Israeli attacks on it territories, to take immediate and decisive measures to stop such attacks, and to hold the Tel Aviv regime to account for them.

“The Israeli aggression coincides with cowardly terrorist acts being carried out in some parts of Syria. This aggression also falls within the framework of the systematic propaganda campaign being waged by the United States of America and some of its Western allies,” the letters read.

Syria stresses that Israeli attacks on its soil will never fail to force Damascus into abandoning its right to take back the occupied Golan Heights in accordance with the pre-1967 borders, and under the relevant international resolutions, the ministry noted, adding that "such steps ... will not manage to diverge Syrian army troops from their fight against Takfiri terrorism."

The ministry also condemned the sanctions slapped on Syria by Western countries, saying, "These countries have even exacerbated the sufferings of Syrian people by imposing unjust and illegal sanctions on them. These attempts will not dissuade Syria from exercising its right to defend its land, people and sovereignty by all means guaranteed by the UN Charter plus the provisions of the international law."

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) announced late on Tuesday that the air defenses of the Syrian Arab Army had confronted an Israeli act of aggression launched from the Lebanese airspace against some targets in the central and southern regions and shot down a number of Israeli missiles in the skies over the capital Damascus.

Israel frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the resistance movement Hezbollah, which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists since 2011.

The Tel Aviv regime mostly keeps quiet about the attacks on Syrian territories, which many view as knee-jerk reaction to the Syrian government’s increasing success in confronting terrorism in its territories.

Damascus has repeatedly urged the United Nations to condemn and take action against Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty.
