Araqchi: Time for US, Europe to make difficult decisions

The fifth round of talks between Iran and the remaining signatories to the nuclear deal, known as the JCPO, concludes in Vienna. The objective is to bring the US back into the deal and to ensure the full implementation of Iran’s nuclear commitments.

EU coordinator Enrique Mora said the sticking points are fewer than they were a week ago. Iranian lead delegate Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said although the sides have made good progress, some key issues still need to be resolved.

Iran has demanded the removal of all sanctions imposed, reimposed or relabeled under the former US administration, saying it will only return to full compliance after the verification of sanctions removal.

The Joint Commission will reconvene in a week’s time and though the EU coordinator said he was absolutely sure the next round of talks would be the last, Iran’s lead delegate opted for a more cautious stance, saying nothing is predictable in such difficult negotiations.
