US uses Sinjar region to train, support terrorist groups: Analyst to Press TV

The United States and Israel are planning to use the Sinjar region, which includes areas in Iraq, Syria and Turkey, to foster racist and ethnic groups involved in terrorist activities against regional countries, a political analyst tells Press TV.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Monday, Abbas Alardawi, who is an analyst working with Alhadaf Network for Political Analysis, elaborated on the issue of why the United States is trying to take control of this triangular region.

The Sinjar region, he said, is of very high geopolitical importance to the three aforesaid countries. “The United States and the Zionist regime are trying to solidify their control over this region to use it as an incubator to foster racist and ethnic terrorist groups.”

“Such [terrorist] groups seek specific goals through stirring chaos in this region, which include plundering the regional nations' wealth – such as oil, precious metals and so on – and pave the way for the easy transfer of terrorist elements between Iraq and Syria.”

Alardawi said another goal pursued by the US in that region is to use it for the transfer of wheat stolen from Syria. Sinjar is considered an important passage along the famous Silk Road.

He added that there are many reports indicating that US forces have been stealing Iraq’s oil since 2003 and, at times, they have stolen up to one million barrels of the country’s oil per day.

“The US uses revenues from the Iraqi stolen oil to develop its bases and also to finance various terrorist groups in the region,” the analyst argued.

Alardawi said a major excuse used by Americans to maintain their grip on this region is that it is used by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Daesh Takfiri terrorists to transfer forces between Syria and Iraq, but in fact “by claiming to be supporting the people of Sinjar against Daesh, the US is planning to build a military base there.”

Despite claims by the United States that it is fighting terror in Syria and battling Daesh, the analyst said, Washington is using the al-Tanf border crossing to transfer terrorists from Syria to Iraq and vice versa. “Therefore, the US forces have built an air corridor between their base in al-Tanf and Ain al-Assad military base in Iraq.”

The US forces are stealing Syrian wheat through the al-Walid border crossing and taking it to Iraq in order to sell it at black markets there, which harms the Iraqi economy, he said.

Alardawi urged international bodies to heed the protests of people living in Sinjar who demand the withdrawal of all American forces.

“Residents of this region have announced time and again that they can protect themselves and only need to get arms and form a local defense force,” Alardawi said.

The US first confirmed its looting of Syrian oil during a Senate hearing exchange between South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in late July 2020.
